Support Group

In the days after Jacks death, Jack’s Mum Arlene was desperate to speak to someone like her who had lost a child. Despite searching the internet and calling several help lines, she was unable to find adequate support for bereaved parents in Scotland. Since October 2013, Brightest Star has held monthly support group meetings in Glasgow for parents who have lost a child. There meetings are an informal opportunity for parents to talk about their child, their life and their grief. There is no pressure to talk at the meetings and it does not matter how recent or long ago your child died, what age your child was or what caused your child to die; every bereaved parent is welcome at Brightest Star. As you can see from the videos, the bereaved parents that Brightest Star has supported through the group meetings have found the experience really beneficial. We understand that it can be daunting coming along to a meeting for the first time and for that reason, sometimes parents bring a relative or friend to their first meeting with them. If you would like to meet with a bereaved parent but you feel that are not ready to attend a group meeting then Brightest Star can accommodate this through individual meetings and one on one counselling sessions. If you are a bereaved parent and this is something that you would like to enquire about then please email Arlene on This email address is being protected from spambots.
